Ferny Grove to Samford Rail Trail
9.06 kmSealed path from Ferny Grove to Peterson Road; compacted surface through the conservation park; quiet local roads into Samford.Ferny Grove to Samford
A short trail from Ferny Grove Railway Station to Samford Village on Brisbane's north-western edge, following part of the old Ferny Grove-Dayboro railway (also called the Samford Valley Rail Trail). The line closed after the Camp Mountain rail disaster, and short sections of the corridor are now trail through Samford Forest and the foothills of Camp Mountain. It is the closest rail trail to central Brisbane and is popular with local riders.
From Ferny Grove Station the first 2.5km or so of the old alignment is now a road. The trail proper starts at the end of Lanita Court and is sealed as far as Peterson Road, then runs through the conservation park and rolling farmland at the base of Camp Mountain (a memorial cairn marks the disaster site). The final stretch into Samford uses quiet local roads. The Samford Museum has the original Ferny Grove station. Measured track length is 9.06km; tourism sources quote 8.3km.
