Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail
23.74 kmPredominantly fine gravel, with compacted earth and some asphalt on the road section.Colquhoun to Lakes Entrance
A shared path linking the East Gippsland Rail Trail near Colquhoun with Lakes Entrance. About half follows an old granite tramway beside Mississippi Creek through forest, passing a former quarry with a viewing platform. The last stretch into Lakes Entrance is on roads.
Colquhoun to Log Crossing Picnic Area (about 11km on the GPX): a bush track with steep descents into the Mississippi Creek valley, the former quarry at about 4km, then the tramway beside the creek, crossing it several times. Log Crossing has camping and toilets. Log Crossing to Lakes Entrance: the tramway continues to Scriveners Road, then the trail climbs to Colquhoun Road and follows it and Palmers Road down into Lakes Entrance, mostly sealed with minimal shoulder and some traffic. The route into Lakes Entrance is not well marked, and the steep climbs and descents are tough for some riders.
