Northern Rivers Rail Trail: Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek
30.59 kmAbout 6km sealed asphalt; the rest compacted gravel.Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek
The Tweed section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail, opened in 2023 along the former Murwillumbah railway line through the Tweed Valley. It passes Dunbible, Stokers Siding, Burringbar and Mooball, crosses restored railway bridges, and runs through the 524m Burringbar Range Tunnel (unlit, to protect glow worms and microbats) and the 50m Hulls Road Tunnel. The full trail is planned to run 132km from Murwillumbah to Casino.
About 6km is sealed asphalt (Murwillumbah station to the Tweed Regional Art Gallery, and between Burringbar and Mooball stations) and the rest is compacted gravel. The measured track (30.6km) includes extra distance before Murwillumbah railway station, so it is longer than the official 24km Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek section.
