Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail
21.94 kmFully sealed the entire way, suitable for road bikes, hybrids and all the family-friendly modes RTA lists (though reviews note the surface can be a bit broken and stick-littered in patches after storms).Tumbarumba to Rosewood
NSW's first rail trail on a government-owned rail corridor, opened April 2020 after nearly two decades of community campaigning by Riverina Highlands Rail Trails Inc. Follows the final 21km section of the old Tumbarumba railway line (closed 1974, later fully removed 1987) through sub-alpine countryside and open farmland in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains. Fully sealed and family-friendly, suitable for bikes, e-bikes, scooters, mobility scooters and prams. Four historic station sites along the way (Figures Street, Glenroy, Wolseley Park, and the Rosewood terminus) carry interpretive displays on the old branch line's history, plus a restored NSW Railways guard's van at the Tumbarumba trailhead. Watch for magpies in swooping season (Aug-Oct). Ridden as a there-and-back from Tumbarumba - this GPX records the full out-and-back ride, matching how the trail is described and ridden in practice (recorded distance closely matches Ride Tumba's own quoted ~46km round trip including their shop-to-trailhead connector).
Tumbarumba (Figures Street trailhead, the original station site, highest point on the trail at approx. 696m) heading south-west: descends through farmland past Sawpit Creek bridge (approx. 573m) to Glenroy Station site (approx. 555m, lowest point, interpretive display and toilets), continues to Wolseley Park Station site (approx. 570m), then climbs gently into Rosewood, finishing near Rosewood Memorial Park / McEachern Lane (approx. 604m). A couple of steeper pinches at the Tumbarumba end on the return leg.
