Perth to Armadale Principal Shared Path
32.17 kmApproximately 80% high-quality asphalt shared path; remaining 20% on low-traffic residential streets (gaps planned for future upgrade to dedicated path).Armadale to Perth
A high-quality principal shared path (PSP) following the Armadale railway line - Perth's south-eastern suburban rail corridor, opened 1893 - connecting the Perth CBD (starting near Yagan Square) with Armadale. Approximately 80% is high-quality asphalt shared path, with the remaining 20% on low-traffic residential streets where the dedicated path hasn't yet been built. Passes through Victoria Park, Cannington, Gosnells, Kelmscott, Challis and Sherwood on the way to Armadale. IMPORTANT: this is a functioning urban commuter path, not a rural rail trail - expect other cyclists, pedestrians and everyday commuter traffic throughout, especially near the city end. All remaining road-based 'gaps' are planned to be upgraded to dedicated path in coming years; a large part of the route is also expected to be realigned as part of the Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal Project.
West Perth/Yagan Square to Victoria Park: through the inner city. Victoria Park to Kelmscott (bulk of the route): mostly following the western side of the Armadale railway line, passing Cannington and Gosnells, then Kelmscott, Challis and Sherwood stations. Kelmscott to Armadale: once reaching Armadale Rd, the path moves to the eastern side of the railway into the Armadale city centre.
