Jarrahdale Balmoral Trail

11.49 kmNatural bushland track following the old tramway formation - can be uneven in places. A steeper detour section exists for cyclists bypassing the private farm crossing.Jarrahdale to Balmoral

Traces the alignment of a historical 1920s timber tramway that connected Jarrahdale's 'No. 3 Mill' (the '39 Mill', on the banks of 39 Mile Brook) to the main line at Jarrahdale. Passes through bushland and some farmland, with a log loading ramp, several 'shield trees' (each carved with a number used by foresters as a grid reference system) and railway sleepers still visible in the ground at an old log-loading cutting. Finishes at the ruins of the old Balmoral POW camp. IMPORTANT for trip planning: at one point the rail formation crosses a private farm - stiles are provided for walkers, but cyclists are specifically advised to follow the Munda Biddi Trail instead, which takes a slightly steeper alternate route around the private property. Signage is lacking in a couple of places, so carrying a copy of the Munda Biddi Trail Map (Map 1) is recommended. Managed by the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale.

Jarrahdale to the private farm crossing: follows the old tramway formation through bushland, passing the log loading ramp and shield trees. Farm crossing to Balmoral: walkers use provided stiles to cross the private farm directly; cyclists should detour via the Munda Biddi Trail's slightly steeper alternate route around the property. Trail finishes at the ruins of the old Balmoral POW camp.
