6.82 kmCompacted earth; suits mountain bikes and walking.Nettleton Road, Jarrahdale to the northern end of the tramway
A heritage trail following a timber tramway built in 1872, past the remains of a later bauxite railway. It runs through jarrah and marri forest and climbs towards the Darling Scarp, where the bush changes to wandoo. Spring wildflowers, historic trail markers and creek valley views.
Starts at the information bay about 1km west of Jarrahdale, at the corner of Nettleton Road and Jarrahdale Road, and follows the original tramway formation. A loop walk leaves the formation. Several sections are steep. Look for the box drains made of jarrah sleepers that have survived since the railway was built. The Jarrahdale museum has railway photos and sells maps and guidebooks.
